Dawgs Steam Roll Warriors Of Wyoming Area 2006 - 2007 BERWICK WRESTLING Berwick hosted the Warriors of Wyoming
Area on January 10. The Dawgs steamrolled their guests with a
dominating 67-12 performance to notch another victory in front of a nice
home crowd of Dawg Faithful.
The Dawgs are now 9 - 6 on the season
(undefeated in district action with only losses incurred at The Virginia
Battlefield Duals).
Berwick went on to win 9 of the 11
contested bouts and en-route recorded 7 pins on the night. Berwick
also received 3 forfeits from Wyoming Area.
Dawgs notching pins included the
following: Aaron Karns, Ryan Sitler, Dom Yantorn, Matt Saxton, Tyler
Perry, Josh Winkelmann, and Nick Venditti.
Prior to the evening's competition,
senior standout Tyler Perry was formally inducted in the Berwick Wrestling
100 Win Club. The night's action actually started off
with no action at all as the Warriors opened by rewarding a forfeit to
senior Richard Brown. With an initial 6-0 lead, junior Aaron Karns
took to the mat and immediately engaged his opponent with a ferocity that
could not be contained and Karns quickly showed his opponent the ceiling for
a punishing first period fall. Sophomore Ryan Sitler was up next for
Berwick. Sitler severely dominated and controlled his opponent for
over 2 frames before administering another one of his patented and nasty
pinning combinations for yet another fall for the record books.
With Berwick in front 18-0, the Warriors
exhaled and were able to snatch the next bout by fall to narrow the lead to
18-6.
The Warriors then extended a forfeit to
Dawg freshman Chris Bujno. Sophomore Dom Yantorn took to the field of
battle next and wasted no time in delivering a tactical nuke that exploded
for a devastating and lightning quick first period pin. Wyoming Area
then awarded their last forfeit of the evening to sophomore Steve Prebola.
Berwick now held a commanding 36-6 lead.
Sophomore Matt Knecht was out of the
gates next for the Dawgs. Knecht wrestled on a mission not to be
denied as he delivered a constant barrage of muscle and technique in
recording an excellent 10-2 major decision. Fellow sophomore Matt
Saxton came out of the pen next. Saxton, moving with the power and
precision of intercontinental missile, wasted no time in targeting his
opponent's back to the mat for a thunderous first period fall and a 46-6
Berwick lead.
Junior Lou Ney was then released to enter
the circle of battle and immediately detonated one punishing move after
another to physically and mentally diminish his opponent for an outstanding
7-2 decision.
It was then time for Berwick senior Tyler
Perry to add yet another win to his 100+ win total. Perry came out to
complete the business at hand and simply gunned downed his opponent as quick
as a blazing meteorite for a macerating first period fall. With Berwick now leading 55-6, the
Warriors were able to snatch a come from behind fall in the next bout that
dented Berwick's lead to 55-12. Junior Josh Winkelmann made sure the
Warriors would score no more. Winkelmann entered the mat of manhood
and blasted right off the whistle with his crushing and menacing strength
that quickly stapled a singlet to the mat for a first period pin.
Junior Nick Venditti was the last Dawg out of the pen and made sure the last
competed bout ended as the first. Venditti's opponent lunged off the
whistle and Venditti, using his superior strength, immediately picked-up and
snapped down his opponent with the force of a pyroclastic flow in notching
an electrifying first period fall. The Dawg Faithful emptied the gym with a
67-12 Berwick victory. Winning Dawgs Against Wyoming Area Congratulations Dawgs!! 2006 -
