Dawgs Place 4 At Times Leader Tournament
Yantorn 4th, Walsh & Karns 6th, Ney 8th
The Dawgs competed at the Times Leader tournament held on
Friday and Saturday, December 16 & 17, at College Misericordia in
Dallas, PA. There were 40 teams in attendance, down slightly from the
48 expected. This is due to Thursday night's winter weather which
forced some teams to adhere to their school district's travel policies
during school cancellations. Dawg performance was updated on this
website continually throughout the tournament.
Berwick placed four wrestlers on the podium in the esteemed
Times Leader tournament. The Times Leader is like a barometer for
District 2 and post-season competition. If you can earn place winning
status at Times Leader and keep working hard, your postseason future is
looking very bright. Below is captioned summaries of Berwick place
winners.
Dominick Yantorn, Freshman, 103lbs., 4th Place
Freshman Dominick Yantorn cloned his place winning finish from the Penn
Manor tourney last week, only this time in a much larger and tougher
tournament. Yantorn ripped through the competition slicing his way all
the way to the semifinals. After a tough loss in the semifinals,
Dominick dropped to the consolation bracket with strong mental focus
capturing the consolation semifinal by storm before falling in the
consolation final.
Congratulations Dominick!!
Josh Walsh, Senior, 152lbs., 6th Place
Senior Josh Walsh bolted his way to the semifinal round after notching
several key impressive wins. Walsh had a tough semifinal, dropping a
heart-breaking 1-point decision. Josh then fell victim in the
consolation semifinal by decision and then was forced to forfeit the
consolation 5th & 6th final due to injury.
Congratulations Josh!!
Aaron Karns, Sophomore, 171lbs, 6th Place
Aaron Karns, wrestling super tough this season, ran an exciting string of
wins all the way to the semifinals. After dropping to the consolation
bracket, Aaron incurred two gut-wrenching 1-point losses but finished the
day with a 6th place medal. Those 1-point losses can be easily turned
around - he's right there and that good.
Congratulations Aaron!!
Lou Ney, Sophomore , 125bs, 8th Place
Lou Ney opened on fire after picking up huge wins in both the pigtail and
preliminary rounds before dropping his quarterfinal match. Ney then
went on to claim ownership of the all-important medal-placing bout by
decision in the 5th round of consolations. Lou then had to fight
through two very close 4-point losses en-route to his 8th place medal.
Congratulations Lou!!
Berwick placed 17th out of 40 attending teams at the Times
Leader tournament.
The Dawgs compete next at HOME vs Wyoming Area at 7pm on
Monday, December 19.
