Dawgs Place 6 At Prestigious Penn Manor Tourney
Walsh Leads Way & Takes 2nd, Venditti & Karns 3rd

The Dawgs traveled to Penn Manor High School on December 9
& 10 to compete in the prestigious 24-team Penn Manor tournament.
Teams that competed at this year's Penn Manor tournament
include the following: Berwick, Brookville, Cape Henlopen, Clearfield,
Crestwood, East Pennsboro, Eastern York, Elco, Elizabethtown, Franklin MD,
Gardenspot, Garnet Valley, Lancaster Catholic, Lassalle, Lebanon,
Mechanicsburg, Northern, Penn Manor, Penn Trafford, Spring Grove, Sussex
DEL, and Twin Valley.
Berwick put an outstanding 6 place winners on the podium and
were lead by senior Josh Walsh taking runner-up honors, sophomores Nick
Venditti and Aaron Karns grabbing a 3rd place medal, freshman Dominick
Yantorn securing a 4th place finish, sophomore Derek Bower seizing 5h place
honors, and junior Tyler Perry forced to injury default for a 6th place
finish. Berwick took 9th place team honors out of 24 competing teams.
The Dawgs also placed 3 in the junior varsity tournament
with senior Steve Ferguson, sophomore Seth Fetteroff, and freshman Matt
Knecht all notching medal honors.
Josh Walsh, Senior, 152lbs.,
2nd Place
Returning NE AAA regional place winner and district champion senior Josh
Walsh, bulked up and wrestling strong, is on a mission this year and and had
an impressive outing in the season's first competition by nailing runner-up
honors. Walsh engaged in fierce battle defeating all opponents on his
side of the bracket en-route to the championship final where he was on the
short side of a decision to Elizabethtown's Jared Sernoffsky.

Nick Venditti, Sophomore,
135lbs., 3rd Place
Sophomore Nick Venditti has put District 2 on notice that he will be a major
force to deal with this year. Venditti, also up two weight classes
from last year, had a fine tournament in notching a 3rd place medal.
Venditti, after dropping from the championship round, turned on the
afterburners with an unrelenting effort that showed guts and determination
in winning the consolation bracket.

Aaron Karns, Sophomore,
171lbs, 3rd Place
Going into this year's season, much weight was anticipated to be placed on
the shoulders of sophomore Aaron Karns to own his weight class and he did
not disappoint with an excellent showing by securing a 3rd place medal in
the season opening tournament. Karns, after dropping to the
consolation bracket, also ratcheted up the intensity and mental fortitude by
finishing the day owning the bracket.

Dominick Yantorn, Freshman, 103lbs., 4th Place
Freshman Dominick Yantorn, competing with high expectations after two junior
high championship titles, wrestled excellent in just his first varsity
action. Yantorn has delivered a legal warrant to all area wrestlers
that he will be a major-league contender this season after snatching an
outstanding 4th place finish at the Penn Manor tournament.

Derek Bower, Sophomore, 215lbs, 5th Place
Sophomore Derek Bower, also competing in his varsity debut with strong
expectations after a dominating junior high season last year, has also
delivered notice to all in the area that this will be one big guy to deal
with throughout the season and post-season. Bower wrestled physically
and mentally strong in his first showing by achieving 5th place honors.

Tyler Perry, Junior, 130bs,
6th Place (injury default)
Let no one get excited about returning NE AAA regional place winner and
district runner-up junior Tyler Perry, who, after some superb wrestling, was
forced to injury default from the tournament but still managed to walk away
with place winning honors. Perry is also on a mission not to be denied
with strong post-season expectations. Perry will be garage serviced
and back to his stellar winning ways in due time.
