Over
50 Years Of Pride & Tradition |

During the past several years,
Berwick Wrestling has continually enhanced its schedule in order to compete
with some of the best teams in the state and country.
The past three years have
witnessed the Dawgs going up against the likes of Blair Academy,
Connellsville, Upper Perkiomen (twice), and some of the best teams in New
Jersey, Virginia, and West Viginia.
Last year's schedule included
dropping sure wins against Nanticoke, Dallas, and Tunkhannock in order to
compete at the Battlefield Duals at Colonial Forge High School in Virginia.
The Colonial Forge team dual tournament provided Berwick with 8 dual matches
against the likes of Connellsville, Upper Perkiomen, Colonial Forge, and a
host of other wrestling powers.
This year's schedule was
enhanced to be even more competitive than last year.
The Dawgs have dropped their
season opener tournament at Manheim Township. While the Manheim
Township tournament was very competitive, last year witnessed only 12
competing teams with winning seeded wrestlers only getting 3 matches.
If you're gonna suck up tournament scheduling points, you want to get as
many matches as possible.
The Dawgs will now open with the
season competing at the Penn Manor tournament. The Penn Manor
wrestling tournament will feature a 24 team double elimination bracket with
wrestle backs to 8th place. Some of the teams entered include at least
the following: Hempfield, Garnet Valley, Northern, Spring Grove, Brookville,
East Pennsboro, Crestwood, Elizabethtown, ELCO, Mechanicsburg, Lebanon, and
several others.
The Dawgs will then have an away
district dual with GAR that will be quickly followed by the Times Leader
tournament (47 teams entered last year). After Times Leader, a pair of
duals against Wyoming Area and Hanover will be fought out before the Jim
Thorpe Holiday tournament on December 30. The Jim Thorpe tournament
has been growing slightly over the past few years with last year's team
attendance at 16. Many winning seeded wrestlers (top 2 & 3 seeds) still
only received 3 matches. Hopefully Jim Thorpe will continue to expand
team attendance.
Berwick will start the year 2006
with a dual against Meyers on the 4th quickly followed by the Dawg's second
consecutive exciting trip down to Virginia to compete in the Colonial Forge
Battlefield Duals. Some of the state and national powerhouses will
include the following.

January is always the biggest
month for Berwick Wrestling. This year, Berwick will have 17 dual
match-ups in January (close to last year). After returning from Virginia,
the Dawgs will then face-off with Lake Lehman, attend the National High
School Coaches Association wrestling tournament for 2 duals, quickly
followed by big wrestling nights against Pittston, Hazleton, Coughlin,
Wyoming Valley West, and Crestwood.
Berwick's busy January schedule
is always a key to its post-season success. The Dawgs will be
thoroughly battle-tested for District Duals on Feburary 3 & 4. A
well-deserved rest break will be enjoyed before seeing if the Dawgs can
retain their Championship title at the District 2 Class AAA Championship
tournament on February 24 & 25.
