Dawgs Open Season 2007 - 2008 BERWICK WRESTLING The Dawgs opened the 2007-2008 season by
hosting the Grenadiers of GAR on Tuesday, December 4. Berwick got off
to a great start on the new season with a dominating 62 - 12 victory.
Sophomore Matt Knecht was the first Dawg
to grapple this season, and in an absolute dog fight, Knecht would not
relent and used pit bull determination to record an excellent 8-6 decision.
Senior Lou Ney was next out for Berwick and wasted no time to announce his
domination as he crushed his opponent to the mat and quickly delivered a
crushing first period pin. Sophomore Dustin Diehl was next out of the
pen and engaged in an all-out war with his opponent. With the bout
close after two periods, Diehl opened the flood gates of his sheer strength
and broke open the contest by recording an outstanding 11-5 decision.
With a 12-0 Dawg lead, senior Josh
Winkelmann strode to the mat of manhood on a mission to conquer.
Winkelmann delivered technical blow after blow and quickly placed a 16-1
technical fall in the books during only the second period. Senior Nick
Venditti strode out next to the circle of war. Venditti, using his
massive strength and technical prowess, showed his opponent the ceiling in
cementing a devastating fall in just 1:34.
Sophomore Brett Bodwalk, in his varsity
debut, kept the Dawg winning ways alive. Bodwalk came out with all the
confidence of an upperclassman and administered one crushing move after
another in overwhelming his opponent for a 9-1 major decision.
Freshman Roy Dennis, also in his varsity debut, engaged in what appeared to
be a tight battle in the first minute of action. That was not to be.
Dennis quickly throttled up the
intensity, and in a spectacular move, glued his opponent's shoulders to the
mat for a fantastic pin with only one second left in the opening frame. The Grenadiers then tipped their hat and
awarded two consecutive forfeits to senior Aaron Karns and junior Ryan
Sitler. Sophomore Chris Bujno took to circle of battle next and
quickly unleashed a barrage of physically punishing artillery one round
after another in recording a dominating 16-1 technical fall into the books.
Berwick then awarded a forfeit in the next bout which gave GAR their first
points of the night. The Grenadiers followed suit and once again
tipped their hat and awarded a forfeit to junior Dom Yantorn. Junior
Steve Prebola entered the arena next. Prebola took off from the
whistle like a hungry lion and quickly mauled his opponent before stapling a
pair of shoulders to the mat for a punishing first period pin. GAR took the last bout of the night by
fall but the win only dented the scoreboard. The Dawg Faithful poured
out of the stands to greet and congratulate their Dawgs for an outstanding
62-12 victory. Recording falls for the Dawgs were Lou
Ney, Nick Venditti, Roy Dennis, and Steve Prebola. Winning Dawgs Against GAR Congratulations Dawgs!!
