Venditti Romps In June 2007 - 2008 BERWICK WRESTLING Nick Venditti recently competed at two national
championship tournaments in the past two weekends and had a great
outing in both by notching All-American 4th place honors at the
NHSCA National Open Championship and pocketing a Copper Medal at the
AAU Scholastic Duals. NHSCA National Open Championship Venditti traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,
to compete in the NHSCA National Open Championship tournament held
at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center from June 16 - 19. Nick
took All-American honors in notching 4th place honors in the 160lb.
bracket. Venditti tore out of the gates in the pigtail round
with a 11-0 major decision over Zachary Mohan of New York. In
the preliminary round, Nick engaged in an all-out dogfight that
ended with an excellent 1-0 decision over Keenan Tate (North
Carolina State Prep 3rd Placer). In the quarterfinal, Nick
defeated Travis Sheehy (Georgia State Runner-Up) by an outstanding
6-0 decision. In the semifinal, Nick was in yet another
barn-burner that went into overtime before Nick dropped the 2-0
decision to Jacob Harmer (3rd Placer in last years Florida HS State
Tournament). Nick's next match was in the consolation semifinal
in a rematch against Keenan Tate who Venditti beat 1-0 during the
previous day. Once again Nick prevailed in another tight
contest that saw Venditti walk away with an outstanding 4-2
decision. In the consolation final, Venditti entered into yet
another rematch when he squared up again with Travis Sheehy.
The contest was tight once again at the end of the first period.
In the second frame, Nick incurred an injury shortly after the
whistle but was unable to secure an injury timeout and ended up
incurring the loss by fall in 2:19. With Nick's 4th Place
finish he secured the outstanding All-American status from the NHSCA
National Open Championship tournament. 2007 AAU Scholastic Duals Nick Venditti traveled to Florida to compete in the
2007 AAU Scholastic Duals held at the Walt Disney World Complex in
Buena Vista, Florida, from June 24 - 29. The AAU Scholastic
Duals is reported to be the nation's largest high school dual meet. Nick, competing at 160lbs for the MAWA Mid-Atlantic
Red team, had an outstanding tournament going 6-3 and was awarded
the tournament's Copper Medal. The Mid-Atlantic Red team
finished 18th out of 30 teams. After a shaky start in which Nick went 1-3, Venditti
then opened up the floodgates of power and technique that witnessed
him secure a fabulous string of 5 consecutive victories.
Fantastic wrestling! Venditti's first bout was a 7-10 loss by decision to
Kevin Hardy (3x Ohio State Champ) of Samsons. Nick then
rallied to win the next bout by a superb 6-5 decision over C.
Hensley of Montana. Nick then dropped his next two bouts by a
3-9 decision to Phil Dukes (2x Ohio State Placer, 6th/3rd) of the
Ohio Dragons and a narrow 2-4 loss decision to Brad Clark (PIAA AAA
6th Placer) of PA Steel Gold. Nick then slammed the gears into overdrive and was
on a mission to not be denied. Venditti then ripped off a brilliant 2-1 win by
decision over B. Craft of Michigan Gold. Venditti then lit up
the scoreboard with a 9-0 major decision over T. Marvel of Central
Maryland. Nick's hot streak continued as he masterfully
dominated his next opponent, J. Wolt of Nebraska White, in recording
a 8-1 decision. In his next bout, Venditti ratcheted up the
scoring with a pulverizing 15-0 technical fall over Chris Pakorny of
Nebraska Red. In his last bout of the dual tournament, Nick
went up for a second time against T. Marvel of Central Maryland. The
result was the same as Nick defeated Marvel by an excellent 6-0
decision. THE
