Dawgs Conquer 2007 - 2008 BERWICK WRESTLING Berwick traveled to Lake Lehman
High School on January 19, 2008, in a pivotal contest between the
two district powers. The Dawgs, continuing their steaming hot
winning ways, were simply too much for the Black Knights as Berwick
conquered their hosts with an impressive 45 - 24 victory.
Berwick is now 17 - 4 on the
season and remains undefeated in district and state competition.
For this important dual contest,
one of the most impressive sights of the night wasn't even on the
mat. The Dawg Faithful, Berwick's loyal fans who bleed blue
& white, easily outnumbered the Black Knight home crowd.
On behalf of the Berwick Wrestling Program, we sincerely thank our
diehard fans and hope you keep it up the rest of the season and
postseason!
The Black Knights pierced
Berwick's armor first when they notched a fall in the first bout of
the night to take a 6-0 lead. It would turn out to be the only
time Lake Lehman would lead Berwick in the contest. Lake
Lehman immediately followed by awarding a forfeit to sophomore Tom
McGraw in the next bout that knotted up the score at 6-6.
Senior sensation Nick Venditti
was then sent out to the circle of war. In one of the night's most
entertaining bouts, Venditti went up a weight class to chase one of
the top Black Knights. Venditti, with his highly renowned
physical and technical dominance, once again wrestled like a
glue-gun in not allowing his opponent a chance to breathe, or even
contemplate making a move, in recording a crowd-roaring 3-0
decision.
In another great bout, Lake
Lehman took the next hotly contested battle with an overtime 4-2
decision that tied the team score at 9-all. The Black Knights
would never pull close again as Berwick prominently marked an
upcoming "destruction zone" with concrete barriers as
their heavy machinery was at the ready.
Senior mega-warrior Aaron Karns
darted out like a one-man wrecking machine. Karns promptly
dismantled his opponent with one powerful move after another before
denting the mat with a spectacular and crushing fall at the 3:01
mark.
With the road now paved, junior
PinMeister Ryan Sitler was called upon for steamroller duty.
Sitler, after taking a lead in what was an early slug-fest, seemed
to lose patience with his pesky opponent and determined enough is
enough. Sitler slammed the throttle forward as he kicked into high
gear as he flattened his opponent into the floor with a
patent-pulverizing pinning combination in 5:33. Berwick now
had a comfortable 21-9 lead. Sophomore Chris Bujno was
released from the Dawg Pen next for Berwick. Bujno jumped onto
his opponent right off the whistle for a powerful takedown in the
opening seconds. Despite the utter lack of participation by
his opponent who was laying motionless and completely unresponsive
for the entire duration, Bujno was able to make the most of the
situation by dispensing a punishing 11-0 major decision.
Berwick then tipped their hat and awarded a forfeit to Lake Lehman
in the next bout. Junior Dom Yantorn was next up to
enter the jousting circle. Yantorn, whose eyes look like they
are filled with nitroglycerin just itching for a spark, detonated
off the whistle and wasted no time in caving in his opponent's
shoulders to the basement with a super explosive pinning combination
in a crowd-crazy 55 seconds. Junior Steve Prebola was the next
Dawg to get on his horse to duel a Black Knight. Prebola
immediately tore after his opponent at full charge by powerfully
taking his opponent to the mat with one punishing move after
another. With sheer total dominance, Prebola had his hand raised
high to the sky with a magnificent 13-0 major decision victory. While the Black Knights were able
to grab another hard-fought decision in the next bout, the
scoreboard was beaming bright with a 35-18 Dawg lead. Senior superstar Lou Ney was
taken off his leash next for Berwick. Wrestling like a
starving wild Dawg hunting desperately for red meat, Ney lashed out
at his newest victim in full force as he pounced and plummeted his
opponent to the mat with a thunderous pinning combination in a mere
1:44. Lake Lehman would take the next bout by fall but Berwick
still retained a comfortable 41-24 lead. In the last bout of the night,
Senior phenom Josh Winkelmann took to the gladiator's circle next
for Berwick. Winkelmann, with his muscles bulging and ripping
like The Terminator, immediately went into full robotic attack
mode. With the crowd at fever pitch, Winkelmann injected one
powerful avalanche of power after another onto his opponent in
recording a completely dominating 12-4 major decision. The Dawgs emptied the gym and got
on the bus to head home with the scoreboard still illuminating a 45
- 24 Berwick victory. Winning Dawgs Against Lake
Lehman Congratulations Dawgs!!
