Dawgs Climb Over Dallas Mountaineers 2007 - 2008 BERWICK WRESTLING Berwick Wrestling hosted the
Mountaineers of Dallas on Wednesday, January 9, 2008. The
impressive Dawgs improved to 13-4 on the season as they climbed all
over the Mountaineers in recording a 62 - 12 victory.
There were 11 contested bouts in
the dual with Berwick winning 9. Of the 9 wins, 8 were by
fall.
The dual started with a give and
take for both teams. Dallas opened up with a win by decision
to light up the scoreboard first. Senior Nick Venditti then
took to the arena of war to install a firewall on the opponent team
score. Venditti, using his renowned overpowering strength and
laser-like technique, wasted no time in stapling a pair of shoulders
to the mat for an awe-inspiring fall in a mere 2:23.
The Mountaineers wouldn't go away
quietly and took the next bout by another decision which tied the
score at 6-6 after the first 3 skirmishes.
The Dawgs then went into
gang-fall mode.
Senior Dawg Aaron Karns shot out
next and immediately tore into his opponent. With a
spontaneous explosion, Karns collapsed his opponent to the gym floor
for a mind-numbing pin in only 0.33. Dallas then tipped their
hat and awarded a forfeit to junior Ryan Sitler.
Sophomore Dom Morell then donned
his armor next for Berwick. Morell, in one of the more
exciting bouts of the night, took a hard-fought lead into the third
period. Morell then erupted off the whistle in the third frame
like a devastating pyroclastic blast that simply overwhelmed his foe
and which ended the bout with an impressive fall in 4:41.
Berwick now had a comfortable
25-6 lead. Sophomore Chris Bujno was
released from the Dawg Pen next. Bujno detonated off the
whistle like a roman candle that shot physically-menacing blow after
blow that had the referee jumping from side to side before the
fireworks melted his opponent's shoulders to the basement for a
crushing fall in 3:52. Berwick then tipped their hat to
the Mountaineers and awarded a forfeit in the next bout which
brought the Dawg lead to 30-12. Junior Dom Yantorn was up next to
bat for the Dawgs. Before his bout was to even begin, the eyes
of Yantorn told all of what was to come. Like a crazed madman,
Yantorn engaged into fierce all-out battle. One thing was
certain, Yantorn was going to leave everything he had on the mat.
With a hard-fought lead heading into the second frame, Yantorn
erupted like a super volcano from the video files of National
Geographic. In the second period, Yantorn unleashed a
spectacular move that simply liquefied his opponent's singlet into
the mat for a spectacular fall in 3:33. Junior Steve Prebola was let off
his Dawg leash next for Berwick. Like a rabid Doberman
Pinscher, Prebola immediately and relentlessly attacked his opponent
without mercy before administering a lethal concoction of a
mind-boggling pinning combination that sealed the deal with a
triumphant pin in just 1:33. With the Dawg lead now 42-12,
junior Matt Knecht was re-introduced to the home crowd. And
the kid is back! Knecht took the mat of manhood on a victory
mission. Wrestling with outstanding poise and technique,
Knecht simply out-battled and out-gunned his opponent in every phase
of the game to record an excellent 4-1 decision into the record
books. Senior Lou Ney was requested to
appear next for Berwick. What an appearance it was. Ney,
with his simply stellar physical and technical prowess, surgically
operated on his opponent by incising one obliterating move after
another that lit the scoreboard up like a pinball machine before
pulling the life-support plug with a dominating fall in just 1:46. Sophomore Dustin Diehl was the
next Dawg out of the pen for Berwick. Diehl, in a brilliant
display of overwhelming determination and applied skill, detonated
off the whistle like somebody just dropped a case of nitroglycerin.
In a blink of an eye, Diehl commanded his opponent to surrender via
delivery of super-nova pinning combination that seamed a singlet to
the mat in only 0.38. The Dawg Faithful immediately
began to empty the stands to greet their favored sons at the same
time the Mountaineers once again tipped their hat in awarding a
forfeit in the last bout to sophomore Giovaninni Perla. The
scoreboard lights were then beaming a 62-12 Berwick victory. Winning Dawgs Against Dallas Congratulations Dawgs!!
