The Dawgs traveled to Alexandria, Virginia on January 4 & 5, 2008, to compete at the prestigious Brute Battlefield Duals.  The 15-team field included several of the toughest competition in the country.  Berwick finished an impressive 3rd in team pool competition.

On a special note, senior sensation Aaron Karns was the toast of the Dawg's weekend competition as he notched Career Win #100 via a first period fall on Saturday, January 5 (see separate coverage). Congratulations Aaron!!

In addition to Berwick, teams doing combat at the 2007 Brute Battlefield Duals included:  Christiansburg, VA;  Colonial Forge, VA;  Upper Perkiomen, PA;  Connellsville, PA;  McDonogh, MD;  Poquoson, VA;  Collins Hill, GA;  Hayfield, VA;  Lake Braddock, VA;  River Hill, MD;  Westfield, VA;  Robinson, VA;  Sachem-North, NY;  and Chartiers Valley, PA.

The dual tournament was a 2 day event.

For Berwick, it was a tale of 2 very different days.

Day 1, or Friday night, witnessed the Dawgs lose a heartbreaking 1-point, 32-31, dual against Hayfield High School of Virginia.  What could go wrong ended up going wrong in the first dual.  Berwick then decisively lost the next two duals of the evening to McDonogh HS, MD, and Collins Hills, GA, by 50-12 and 44-25 respectively.

Then came a new day on Saturday.

It was the definition of a brand new day.

The Dawgs opened up on Saturday, the biggest day with 5 consecutive grueling duals without a bye or a break, simply on-fire.  Berwick snatched 4 consecutive fantastic wins before dropping the last dual of the day.  In the heat of Saturday's battle, the Dawgs defeated Poquoson (VA) 45-25, Lake Braddock (VA) 45-19, Robinson (VA) 40-24, Upper Perkiomen (PA) 46-25, before losing a hard fought battle to Westfield (VA) 24-45.

For the Dawgs to come back to wrestle as great as they did on Saturday was an inspirational display of sheer heart and character.

The 2008 Brute Battlefield Duals lived up once again to its billing.  A battlefield it was.  The Dawg Faithful are proud at the way their Berwick Wrestlers, after losing a skirmish Friday night, impressively fought back to level the playing field on Saturday.
